Herbs against Various Diseases….  

We all know that people have been using herbs for healing since ancient times.

The number of medicinal herbs is huge, and their benefits to human health are even greater. Herbs are used in the treatments of various diseases.

  1. CANTARION (St. John’s wort)

* above-ground parts of this herb can be used

St. John’s wort contains hypericin, an ingredient that has soothing, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effect, and a large amount of flavonoids that strengthen the defense mechanism of the body.

It is used externally as a means of calming minor inflammations, burns and cuts. It is also used for fungal diseases, as well as external hemorrhoids. It is recommended for those individuals who suffer from the inability to keep the urine, frostbites, and sore joints. In the USA and in some European countries is very popular as an antidepressant.

CAUTION: Large quantities of cantarion tea can influence a rise in blood pressure, cause nausea and vomiting.

It is used to “keep the warmth of the body” and as a cure for arthritis and rheumatism. Young nettle is great for eating, because it is full of vitamins and iron.

Used as a versatile cure – successfully counteract anemia, diseases of the digestive organs, arteriosclerosis, kidney disease, migraine.

It’s also a common ingredient in shampoos and lotions.

Although it has an antibacterial activity, it is an excellent diuretic. Lately, nettle is more common ingredient in those preparations used for benign prostate enlargement.

It can be consumed in a form of tea, tincture and capsules.

CAUTION: Large doses can cause constipation and skin redness. It must not be used uncooked, because it can damage the kidneys.

It reduces the level of cholesterol, strengthens the heart muscle, is effective for anemia and circulation disorders, as well as weakened immunity.

The flowers are used as a heart tonic. Hawthorn fruits are used to treat diarrhea, and gargle the inflamed throat.

It’s a common ingredient in herbal teas.

CAUTION: The vast amount of hawthorn can reduce blood pressure. Hawthorn preparations should not be used on your own, but consult a doctor, especially when a heart disease is diagnosed.

Not recommended for pregnant women, nursing mothers and children.


  1. BIRCH

* leaves, leaf buds and bark can be used

This beautiful tree is used for making juice, preparing stews, soup, even the flour for baking bread. Stews, soups and teas are used against bladder inflammation, as well as against kidney disorders and gallstones.

The leaf, juice, and bark of birch are used in shampoos and lotions against dandruff, as well as to strengthen the hair roots.

Birch apparently helps in controlling diabetes.

Among people it is often described as “medical drawer” because it has many therapeutic and prophylactic properties. It is also used for diseases that are manifested in great amount of mucus. It is used as an expectorant, diuretic and easy purgative. The mature elder fruits are used to prepare the syrup against colds.

CAUTION: Do not use elderberry if you suffer from increased secretion of fluids, because it would cause a bigger problem. It must not be used during pregnancy because of the strong purgative action.
